The period drama Downton Abbey, currently being screen on Itv, has attracted around 9 million viewers since starting a combine of weeks ago. The drama is set in 1912, in a stately home named Downton Abbey, while the reign of King George V. This had led to a surge of viewers finding for any inaccuracies or errors they can spot and one such instance has complicated the spotting of a contemporary day conservatory in one single shot.
The earliest conservatories can be traced back to the 17th Century, but what can be confirmed is that there were definitely not any Upvc conservatories in gardens back in 1912. Although Upvc was first created in Germany in 1872, conservatories in Yorkshire only started using Upvc towards the end of the last century. This was partly to do with the housing boom that took place at that time and somewhat because traditional timber was no longer recognised as being an adequate material to fight off face weather. Double glazing in Yorkshire is also widely made of Upvc in the present day.

Upvc is a better conductor of heat and will therefore both prevent the face atmosphere from getting inside windows or conservatories and will trap any heat generated inside the home. This can help you heighten power efficiency as you can afford to be less reliant on your heating than you would have been previously.
Upvc also requires less maintenance than timber. Timber has a tendency to crumble and rot, while Upvc will continuously look good, only needing a good wipe down with a cloth to bring it back to life. This will also help aid the appearance of the rest of your home, foremost if you have guests advent to visit.
Whether you want to keep your home in the past, present or future, conservatories are a classic addition.
