Maid In Britain Part 1 Video Clips. Duration : 15.02 Mins.

A look at how domestic servants have been portrayed on television, from The Forsyte Saga in the 60s to Downton Abbey and Upstairs, Downstairs today. Why are butlers, cooks and nannies such staples of TV drama, long after their real-life roles have declined? Are these shows socially relevant or mere escapism, and how accurately does television reflect the experiences of real-life servants?

Downton Abbey - Anna & Mr. Bates

Downton Abbey - Anna & Mr. Bates Tube. Duration : 5.08 Mins.

Mr Bates is definitely a tortured soul, who has perhaps found a soulmate in Anna. His past however, keeps coming back to haunt him. He is reminded of his problems by the physical pain he suffers as well as the mental trauma and frustration that he is caused by having to harbour too many secrets, especially from Anna. I love this song and I'm not sure that it has really worked with the subject matter but I gave it a go anyway. :) Music - Shattered by Trading Yesterday All clips belong to ITV, no copyright infringement intended. Movie Download Websites - A Reality Check

I'm sure we've all come across movie download websites that promise "unlimited downloads" of your popular movies. For what appears to be a cheap fee, some offer a every year or lifetime membership that allows you to get a hold of thousands of movies, ranging from classics to modern blockbusters. And it's all available right from the convenience of your own Pc! Sounds like a great deal, right?

And great yet, many of these movie download websites promise you these great films in high Dvd quality, or a format compatible with your Sony Psp, iPod, or entertainment system. Some don't just offer movies, but music too! And for a one time membership fee? This looks too good to be true!

Downton Abbey

And unfortunately, it is.

Although I haven't had a chance to explore all of these movie download websites, I've done some digging on a popular one called The Movie Downloads (I cannot provide the full link for legal reasons, but you can Google it and read about it for yourself. Anyway, the site is very slick-looking, well-organized, and easy to read site that seems to clearly spell out everything it has to offer, from Faqs to tech support. By the pro layout of the homepage, it admittedly looks legit.

Read on, and find out why you'll feel like an idiot if you sign up...

What it claims: They boast unlimited downloads, a wide range of movies and music, and a variety of formats to select from (.avi, divx, .mov, .mp3, etc). The service claims to be spyware/virus free (for those of you using Windows), and for mac users, The Movie Downloads says it's totally mac friendly.

They even offer software (if you need it) to burn the files you download onto Cds and Dvds. With a tech hold theory in place, this site will refund your money if you are not satisfied for any reason.

All that's left for you to do is sign up for their service, select the membership option that's best for you, then pay the .99 fee. From there, you should have instant access.

What admittedly happens: Once you're in, you define yourself as a mac or Pc user, then select either or not you're an "Advanced" or "Beginner" user. For "Advanced" users, you are directed to download uTorrent (Windows) or Tomato Torrent (Mac).

Here's the dumb part...

Programs like uTorrent and TomatoTorrent (other than having dumb names) are already available online for free! If you superior "Beginner" user, you're simply directed to download Limewire, which is also free!. The lowest line is this: You never had to drop .99 in the first place!

Moral of the story: Movie download websites such as The Movie Downloads trap population who are a little less web/tech savvy by simply convincing them to pay good money for stuff that's available free of charge.

Lesson #1 is this: Don't believe free movie download websites that offer films/music/pictures/porn/beer for free. It ain't gonna happen. Even if you see the occasional "free movie download" links on the Google ads displayed on my very own site, avoid them and click something else.

Lesson #2: Even if you are one step ahead of the crooks and are already an specialist in using bit-torrent or P2P software, watch your back. Downloading gobs of movies, Tv shows, and music using bit torrent sites/services such as can get you into a heap of legal trouble. Sure, thousands of other population (mostly kids) are doing it, they feel the thrill of "beating the system," enjoy bragging about it, and the authorities don't have the resources to police the whole internet (not yet, at least).

But every once in a while person gets caught. And it's ugly. And those who get busted never concept they would. Is it worth it?

I'm not telling you to stick to legitimate pay sites like Netflix or iTunes because I have ads for them running on my website (I only endorse products/services that I admittedly use myself), but those fellowships are legal, affordable, and dependable. Maybe it's not "cool" to play by the rules, but last I checked it's not very "cool" to get slapped with a lawsuit either.

Special thanks to my "little friends" for their investigative assistance

Downton Abbey

Downton Abbey is a British television period drama series written by Julian Fellowes and produced by Gareth Neame. The first series which aired in 2010 cost an estimated one million pounds per episode. Luckily it became one of Britain's most successful British period drama with British ratings exceeding 10 million viewers and over 6 million viewers per chapter in the United States.

The series is set in the fictional Downton Abbey, the stately home of the Earl and Countess of Grantham. It follows the lives of the aristocratic Crawley house and their servants beginning in 1912 just before the war. This was an intelligent period and the series shows the belief and the power of the late Victorians at that time.

Downton Abbey

In the first episode, which is set in April 1912, there is news about the death of Lord Grantham's cousin James Crawley and his son, due to the sinking of the Titanic. As they were the heirs to uptown Abbey and had no male offspring there begins venture as to who will come to be his heir.

The actual series came about when the administrative producer Gareth Neame and writer Julian Fellows were working on adaptation of Julian's novel 'snobs'. They discussed working on an episodic series set in an Edwardian country house and it grew from there. Julian was the excellent writer as he had all the time been concerned in the way of life of fully staffed housed that were nearby when his own father was born.

The series set and costumes are pretty lavish and impressive. Filming took place at the beautiful Highclere Castle in Berkshire and the servants living areas were filmed at Ealing Studios, West London. Many outdoor scenes were filmed in the settlement of Bampton in Oxfordshire. The first series had seven episodes in total, but the coming second series will be composed of eight. The filming began in March this year and will air towards the end of 2011 and will comprise a Christmas special.

The whole team behind this drama make it what it is today. The cast were chosen very well, writers, makeup articles and they even brought on to set the historical consultant Alastair Bruce who helped the actors with answering questions to help them in their roles. If the second series is received in the same way as the first we can hopefully look transmit to a third series being filmed next year.

A First Look Into Vh1's New Reality Series 'Basketball Wives'

All I can say is Wow...I just previewed the first episode of Basketball Wives, the new reality series on Vh1 menagerial produced by Shaunie O'Neal (former wife of Nba star, Shaquille O'Neal) and all I can say is "Wow". Now I will admit that my guilty satisfaction is the Housewives series on Bravo; I watch them all Orange County, New York, New Jersey, Atlanta...it's freaking intriguing and downright hilarious. So I have come into watching Basketball Wives with a preconceived conception on what to expect...and it was all that I conception it was going to be and much more. As I watched it I had to take some notes so can I can remember all of the foolishness that I endured for 20+ minutes. I want to introduce you to all of the players, I think that is the best way to get you ready for the premiere Sunday, April 11 at 10:00 Et/Pt.

Let's start with Shaunie "Momma" O'Neal. As we all know Shaunie was married to Shaq, their on-again off-again married was marred by rumors and incidents of infidelity. Shaunie says that her goal with the series is to shed light onto the involved lives of the women who stand beside larger-than-life pro athletes and show the world that it's not all glitz and glamour as it may seem. Let's just be real here for a minute, I don't know about you but the only habitancy who seem to think that the relationships with these pro athletes is all glitz and glamour is the women who get into these relationships. Trust me, Biggie taught us years ago that 'more money, more problems'. Shaunie comes over as Queen Bee sitting on her throne as these women flock to her for advice on their basketball playing husbands, baby-daddies, ex-fiancés, fiancés, anything they call them. She is absolutely the momma-figure in these episodes, and believes that they all should stick together because this is an foremost and hectic sorority that they all are a part of. Well...I don't know about that but the only thing that makes them distinct from all of the millions of other married women colse to the world is the pro that these men have, which I am inclined to believe brainwashes these women to believe that their lives and families can rival that of Kings and Queens of countries near and far.

Downton Abbey

Then there's Royce. She is the mom of Orlando Magic's Dwight Howard's daughter, which you will never hear that mentioned on the show since Howard has gotten a court injunction that prohibits her from the mentioning his name. Coming into this Royce has so many strikes against her. The other women believe that she is the quintessential stereotypical groupie, and I agree with them. Royce is a dancer (and I use that term loosely, because being from the home of the renowned Magic City I call it something else...if you know what I mean) who danced for both the Magic and the Heat and started her own Burlesque Dance business called Fantashique which travels all over Florida. I haven't surely made up my mind about Royce because one puny she's showing her ass and dropping it like it's hot at a pool party hosted by Terrell Owens, or on a stripper pole at a Miami nightclub, and the next she's crying talking about she wants to go home because nobody likes her. To be a 29-year-old mom this lil' girl has got some serious growing up to do. And what I believe amazes me so much is that she doesn't understand why the other women don't like her, or that many others label her as a 'Gold Digger'. C'mon Son! At the end of the first episode the wives ambushed Royce for raunchy dancing at the party and informed her that her behavior is a reflection of all of them not just her.

Now on to Jennifer, the wife of basketball player, Eric Williams. Now this one I like, even though her marriage is falling apart at every angle she seems to be the most down to earth, the one whose head isn't stuck so far in the clouds. Jennifer is not just sitting at home watching soaps and eating bon-bons, she's a high-end real estate agent and the owner of an upscale women's fitness center, Flirty Girl Fitness. Now the association with Jennifer and her husband Eric is a bit, how should I say, dysfunctional. Jennifer doesn't not call Eric her husband out in collective and he has the 'rule' that when he's on the road, he's gone on the road, but when he's home, he's home with her. Now I naturally have to shake my head at that, because all it does is show me that here's a flourishing woman who's traded in her self-respect for a lifetime furnish of Gucci and Jimmy Choos. As the series progresses we get to learn more about Jennifer and Eric and what they are going to do about this dysfunction that they are living in.

Suzie Ketcham is the previous wife of basketball player Michael Olowokondi, who is a bonafied party-girl and collective butterfly. Suzie is on the Vip list of every club, has invites to the hottest parties, and knows all of the hottest celebrities and athletes. Suzie met Michael while attending college and by her senior year was pregnant with the concentrate first child. Suzie reminds me of Shaunie, she's diluted in her believe that being a players' wife or ex-wife isn't a lifestyle it's a career that you get on the job training for and you are an worker for life with all of the perks and benefits. Suzie and Michael have two children together and were together for 10 years before splitting up. Suzie coins herself as knowing all of the ends and outs of the 'game' and is all the time more than willing to give her conception even if no one asked for it.

Then there's Puerto Rican beauty Evelyn, who's from the Bronx, and is the previous fiancé of Antoine Walker. Evelyn and Antoine were together for a puny over 10 years before she says she got fed-up with all of the lying and cheating; well that's at least her said of the story. I just can't believe that this woman let her association with this man go on for 10+ years and no 'real' commitment. Wake-up... The engagement was just the keeping pattern that worked for 10 years so you could be engaged and he could continue living the superstar lifestyle he was leading. Evelyn is living in Miami beginning over and enduringly crying about how she's struggling because there's no more shopping or excessive spending...Please Give Me a Break! Evelyn has milked the lifestyle for all that it has to give and is now on to the next one.

Finally there's Gloria, who is the only who feels she's got her stuff together. Gloria is engaged to Matt Barnes, who she met at the age of 12. After years apart Gloria and Matt reconnected when Matt was playing ball near her hometown of Oakland. The concentrate has twin 16-month-old boys, and at the age of 24 Gloria is trying to focus on her own business and charities outside of basketball, but the only charity that she is involved in Matt Barnes' charity. Now the drama with Gloria is that the other women are enduringly telling her that this not how it's going to be forever, he [Matt] will cheat on you, there will be groupies, but there's an awkward association is with Shaunie, because it is rumored that Gloria's sister is sleeping with Shaq. Wow! For what I saw in the first episode, Gloria doesn't even care what the others think, she believes in her fairytale life and will put money on it that Matt is not like the others.

Well like I said I knew what I was getting into before I watched the show, but I was hoping to see at least one concentrate who was centered down to earth and showing the hold of what a real family unit was. In the first episode don't expect the drama, or the hair pulling, or the club fights, all of these antics will be Coming up in future episodes. All in all it's your typical reality show full of bling, champagne, mansions, cars, clothes and of procedure the men. After the first episode let me know what you think, and each week look for a new posting on the newest episode of Basketball Wives. Until next time...

16 Tips to Make Your Video Look Like Film

In my young career, I've received some fantastic division storyboards from my executive Producer. Whenever this happens, I hunker down at my desk in the office and brainstorm a treatment. This is the fun part. This is when I earn my money. I spend hours trying to come up with ideas that will make the ad great than it is on paper. When I've come up with remarkable visuals and a article arc that I would be proud of, I ask her what format we're shooting in. I can't count how many times my hopes and dreams have been crushed when she says, "Hd."

Arggghhhh! There goes the gorgeous vignettes. Gone are the gorgeous colors and textures.

Downton Abbey

Dealing with increasingly low budgets on commercials and music videos, I've found myself forced to use video many times. Over the last few years, my cinematographer friends and I have roughly perfected the art of making video look like film.

In the land of film wannabes, Depth Of Field Is King. Depth of field is the distance in front of and behind the branch that appears to be in focus. The shallower the depth of field, the less focused the objects around your branch will be. DoF allows you to shape the blend of your frames by choosing what areas will be in focus. This aides your storytelling and art direction. And it just looks better. There are instances though that you would want deep focus like for certainly wide shots.

DoF is commonly the first dead giveaway that you're shooting video. That's video's weakness. all is in focus. But how do you get shallow depth of field?

The following are techniques we've used and I swear by them.

Camera Set Up

Shoot Wide Open - The wider the opportunity of the camera aperture, the shallower the depth of field. The aperture size is specified by the f-stop. The higher the f-stop, the smaller the aperture and the larger the depth of field (Remember that inverse relationship!). Think about your eyes (which are essentially nature's most industrialized set of lenses), when you squint to look at a distant object (reduces aperture), you can see that it's sharper. When your pupils dilate (aperture open), things get blurry.

Okay, sufficient of the technical talk. Just remember the inverse relationship: High F-Stop, Small Aperture, Large Depth of Field. We want the opposite: Low F-Stop, Large Aperture, Shallow Depth of Field.

Use the Long End of the Lens - Zoom in as far as you can go and move the camera back. Although you won't quite get the same blend because you're changing the focal distance of the lens, it will be easier to defocus the background. However, using a longer lens does not necessarily mean you will get a shallower depth of field.

24P - In this day and age, I would never shoot whatever interlaced again. 24P cameras mimic the way images are captured on film. I won't go too much more into this. This topic has been beaten to death since the Panasonic Dvx100 came on the scene. Just Shoot 24P!

Diffusion Filter - Throw a piece of glass over the lens. No, not just any glass. More specifically a diffusion filter. You can use Promist or Black Diffusion from Tiffen. These filters soften up the image a little and saves you from the harshness of video. As a side benefit, your actors will love you. :)

Adjust Shutter Speed - Video is commonly set at 1/60 shutter speed. Film records at 1/48. So if you want to emulate film, obviously shoot at 1/48. Doing so adds a bit of petition blur to the images, which is a good thing since video is inherently very sharp.

Gamma - A camera's sensitivity to the arresting and dark areas of a scene is called gamma. Film provides a much wider latitude between the arresting and dark areas. Video doesn't. That's the conjecture video's arresting areas blow out quickly and the dark areas lose detail quickly. More industrialized video cameras allow you to modify the gamma up to a confident extent. Stretch it a little bit to get closer to film.

Film Lens Adapter - As much as possible, I don't shoot video without a film lens adapter. I just recently switched loyalties from P+S Technik over to Letus. The great thing about the Letus is that it's not quite as light hungry as the P+S. And if you're shooting video, you most likely don't have the funds for too much lighting equipment. Besides, the Letus is much much cheaper than the P+S. If you can afford to rent Zeiss Ultra Primes, go right ahead. I use whether Ultra Primes or the Zeiss Zf set I own. But a set of Nikon lenses should suffice.

Cinematography

Use allowable blend - Learn the techniques of allowable composition. Just pick up any photography book and you'll explore how uncomplicated it is to make an image much more distinguished and dramatic by just composing it slightly different. Keep the "Rule of Thirds" in mind each time you compose.

Use a Dolly, Crane, or Jib Arm - Fine, renting a crane is expensive. Well, at least use a dolly. Dollies can be rented cheaply. I've done the wheelchair thing but frankly it's just not as level as a well-oiled dolly on tracks. A dolly move adds a bit of output value, something you won't see in a home video. If you can get a boom, so much the better. Any type of "professional" camera moves you can add gives your work a sense that it is grander than just a guy running around with a handheld camera.

Use allowable Lighting - A beloved myth in shooting video is that you don't need as many lights as in shooting film. The cinematographers I've worked with have always used "film lighting" practices even when lighting video. Use the "Three Point Lighting" method. Use a fill, key, and back light. If you have more lights, go with four points by lighting the background. Video has very shallow variation range (blows out easily). You need to light properly to equilibrium out the contrast. Operate lights with silks, gobos, cookies, flags, and bounce boards. These can all be home made with just some cardboard, aluminum foil, etc. Because of video's crappy variation range, avoid shooting against arresting backgrounds. You will lose detail fairly quickly.

Post Production

Professional Audio - citizen forget that images only make up half the movie. The other half is sound. Well-recorded and mixed audio makes a huge variation on how watchable your material is.

Use Magic Bullet - A few years ago, Red Giant Software came out with this distinguished software. This is roughly a must have. It allows you to manipulate your images into roughly any look you want. Try out their presets. These are often good sufficient with just a little tweaking.

Use Letterbox - This formula is somewhat of a cheat. If you're camera shoots native 16x9, then by all means use it. If it doesn't, then frame for 16x9 in your shoot and just throw on a letterbox in post. Use masking tape on your monitor and Lcd screen to give you the allowable dimensions. This is crucial otherwise you might end up with some shots framed for 4x3 and some for 16x9.

Color Grade - No matter how good your cinematographer is, his work will still need to be graded. I have found that crushing the blacks gives video a more dynamic feel. The image becomes more aesthetically pleasing. Adding a bit of warmth and diffusion also helps. Don't go overboard though as you can certainly make the grading look noticeably "touched up".

Production Design

Place foreground and background images - Part of art direction is shaping what goes into the frame. Every frame is composed of 3 elements: the foreground, the midground, and the background. Many novice filmmakers focus only on the midground (where your actors are) and the background. This often results in flat images. What if you throw down a potted plant in front of the camera? What if you're shooting through a window or steel bars? Make sure the foreground is out-of-focus sufficient so it doesn't distract from the main scene (the midground). That is, of course, unless your main scene is happening in the foreground.

Direction

Blocking - Move your actors away from the background if possible. Doing so will allow you to defocus the background. If you're doing an over the shoulder shot, you can also cheat this by arresting the actors away from each other. The farther objects are from each other, the easier it will be to get a shallow depth of field.

So That'S It. But Don'T Forget!

It's still all about content and story. If you can't hook your audience into the story, they won't care that you shot a gorgeous piece of art. That's why some of the best reality shows are still great than some of the best shot films.

I hope you have learned and enjoyed from these snippets of guidance I have given. It took me and my staff lots of trial and error to get things right. Believe me, it totally sucks when you get back to the editing suite and you find the grid lines of the diffusion filter on the screen. :) As with anything, institution makes perfect.

Advantages of Blu Ray Over Dvd

A lot of citizen don't know the distinction between Blu Ray and Dvd. Often the larger price tag on Blu Ray players and movies puts citizen off, but there are confident advantages over Dvd that you should consider. To that end, here is a shopping guide to help you perceive those advantages.

For starters, their discs have a lot more warehouse space than Dvds. While quarterly Dvds have only 4.7 Gb of space, their counterpart discs can store up to 27 Gb - which is 13 hours of acceptable definition television, or 2-3 hours of Hdtv. This means that you can store a lot more information on a disc, which means more extra features for your movies as well as more details to watch on your Hdtv.

Downton Abbey

Buying a Blu Ray player doesn't mean that you need to replace all your Dvds, as you might have done when converting from Vcr to Dvd. All players are backwards-compatible, meaning you can watch your older Dvds with a Blu Ray player. Most players also "upconvert" your Dvds; in other words, they growth the definition of your acceptable Dvd to a best image for Hdtvs. If you have a gargantuan collection, you can still watch them in higher than acceptable definition (though it's still not Hdtv).

The biggest benefit of Blu Ray over Dvds has been touched on but not fully explored: Hdtv. You will not get the same ability picture on an Hdtv with a acceptable Dvd player. A disc will give you superb picture quality, and also audio quality. So not only will you experience best Tv and movies, your sound principles will sound best too.

The substantially improved picture and sound on Hdtv sets is a succeed of the increased warehouse space on the Blu Ray disc, as well as the blue laser behind the technology. By upgrading to Blu Ray you will never want to go back to Dvd - just like you never wanted to go back to Vhs.

Matthew & Mary, Downton Abbey - How To Break a Heart

Matthew & Mary, Downton Abbey - How To Break a Heart Tube. Duration : 3.35 Mins.

Matthew and Mary are my favourite couple from Downton Abbey so I've made another fanvideo for them -- there can never be enough for this couple in my opinion. :-) The song is set from Matthew's point of view and, whilst it is quite a heartbreaking and depressing song, it's just how I think Matthew feels at the end of series 1. The song is "How to Break a Heart" by Westlife and it was made for the Mary/Matthew Monday Madness Live Journal community (where new Mary/Matthew fanwork gets added every Monday) - mmmondaymadness.livejournal.com There are a few deeper meanings in the lyrics and how they're matched up to the video, so see if you can spot them! I hope you enjoy watching it! Thank you!

Over the procedure of the series several characters are introduced, here are the details about the main characters. His best friend Samwise Gamgee is there with him every step of the way, carrying and encouraging the both of them when Frodo feels that he cannot go any further. Samwise Gamgee is in some ways more of the hero than Frodo himself. He goes to great lengths to protect Frodo, and his love and loyalty is nearly incomparable to any other character in the saga. He is even willing to set aside his positive dislike and distrust of Gollum in order that he and Frodo may perfect their quest. Aragorn was known as Strider in the starting of the journey, but later went by his true name when the joined the fellowship. Aragorn is soon revealed to be the next King of Arnor. Tinker Bell the favorite Fairy

I had the remarkable opportunity to watch the new Tinker bell movie with my granddaughter this weekend.

What a great family movie for all ages. Tinker bell has got to be the most favorite fairy in the land. The customary Tinker bell was created from J.M. Barries 1904 play and 1911 novel Peter and Wendy.

Downton Abbey

In 1953 the cartoon Walt Disney photograph Peter Pan Tinker bell was only a supporting character described by her inventor as "a base fairy. Her thoughprovoking birth has since become a widely recognized unofficial mascot of The Walt Disney Company.

Unlike Disney's two Peter Pan movies featuring Tinker Bell, which were produced primarily using general animation, the new Tinker Bell was produced using digital 3D modeling. This film marks the first time that the Disney version of Tinker Bell has spoken dialogue.

Way before Peter Pan and the Lost Boys soared into Never Land, the world's most favorite fairy and her fairy friends were creating their own special magic. For the very first time in film, Tinker Bell opens the doors to the notable Pixie Hollow, a hideaway deep in the heart of Never Land, where the Disney Fairies make their home.

Have you ever wondered how a flower gets its radiant glowing color...or wondered the source of a dew drop ... Or contemplated from where rainbows start? It's all the work of fairies! This landmark appeal photograph from DisneyToon Studios reveals the story of Tinker Bell's early life in the remarkable world of Pixie Hollow.

Each fairy is born with a special talent and skills, whether it's manufacture flowers grow, giving fireflies their shining light or tracing beautiful patterns into a winter morning's frost. Tinker Bell thinks her fairy talent as a "tinker" is not as special or important, because tinkers don't go to the mainland like the other fairies.

But when Tink tries to turn who she is, she creates nothing but disaster! With encouragement from her friends Fawn, Iridessa, Rosetta and Silvermist, Tink learns that the key to solving her problems is found in her unique abilities ...
